After seeing deer while geocaching by the Credit River last weekend, my 3 year old daughter Devon wanted to see some for herself. We set off on a drizzling Sunday morning and spent an hour exploring the area. The area used to be a farm and there is lots of evidence of old buildings, fences (including barb wire), and equipment scattered about the place. I took a picture of Devon beside one rusty but impressive machine.

Devon with Farm Equipment

I saw deer three times during the hour. Five or six of them were trying to stay out of view, but I saw them behind the bushes about 30 metres away. Devon missed them, so we followed their tracks to get a better look. I got another glimpse of them a little later. They were doubling back on us again about 30 metres away behind some cover. So we circled again and were lucky to to see two clearly through some trees about 20 metres away. One stood still long enough for Devon to get a good look while it stared back, but it moved before I could get my camera up. Another deer followed it, and I managed to get this fuzzy photo as it passed behind the trees before disappearing over a hill.
